“American dream songs called in long distance from an area code as yet unspecified.”

Rolling Stone

"It was a treat to see Zoss perform old blues numbers and songs from his forthcoming album…the audience was sent back out into the warm night knowing they had witnessed something special.”

Lahri Bond, Dirty Linen #114, November 2004

"A unique personality, with all the magic and mystery and mischievousness of the classic troubadour. The melodies will haunt you. His lyrics are first-rate poetry.”

The Village Voice

"Joel Zoss, a versatile musician who mixes mystical themes with strong melodies, has enjoyed a cult following as a master songwriter since Bonnie Raitt recorded his 'Too Long at the Fair'.  Zoss has a strong voice distinctive for its phrasing and vibrato. His songs are lovely and dramatic, ranging in tone from the ribald 'Radiator' to the surrealist preaching of 'The 41st' to plaintive love songs such as 'I Waited for You' and 'Sarah's Song'.”

Q: Who in American music has influenced your work?

A:  I don’t think there’s been an influence as much as discovering kindred spirits. I’ve been really inspired by the music of the singer-songwriter/guitarist Tim Hardin, whose mood and feeling I like, and I’ve been very blessed to meet and play with the legendary guitarist and songwriter Joel Zoss, whose work is so apocalyptic. I love him and Ricky Lee Jones, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, and the recordings of The Band. And, of course, Jimi Hendrix.
